Minutes February 22, 2012

Workshop

10:00 – 11:30      McKenzie Davis of the Success Group addressed the membership with a legislative workshop.  Mr. Davis is currently a lobbyist for the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association.  The pending sunset date of S.B. 129, which provides for the monthly wireless surcharge of .28 cents, is December 31, 2012.  Mr. Davis discussed practical strategies for getting to know your legislators and effectively communicating the need to extend wireless funding in Ohio.

Jay Somerville, APCO/NENA Legislative Committee Chairperson followed up with a discussion about what the Ohio APCO/NENA Legislative Committee is doing on our behalf.  They are working with CCAO, BSSA, OACP and OAFC to spread awareness and leverage resources between groups in order to influence legislators.

Lunch

Meeting

Rose Chambers, President of Ohio NENA and Mike Banks, President of Ohio APCO opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Introductions of all attendees followed.

Secretary Report

Rose Chambers indicated that the Ohio NENA Minutes from the November meeting are on the website and asked for a motion to approve them.  Valerie DeRose, Summit County, motioned to accept and second by Anne Barr, Union County. 

Treasurer Report

Valerie DeRose, NENA Treasurer, Summit County 911 submitted hard copies of the Treasurer Report.  Checking balance is $3,170.01 and Savings balance is $1,704.75.   Total available balance is $4,874.46.  Motion to approve by Carol Armitage, Defiance County and second by Pat Goldschmidt, Shelby County.

Special Presentation

Monte Diegel, Mercer County and Anne Barr, Union County presented Rose Chambers, President Ohio NENA, Wood County, with a plaque from Ohio NENA to congratulate her and thank her for her years of service in the Ohio NENA Chapter and to recognize her excellent leadership and dedication to our organization.  Thank you Rose!

Michael Warren, Emergitech, District Four Trustee – Michael was not present and will make arrangements to be sworn in at a later date.

National NENA Update

Rose Chambers gave a National NENA Update.  ENP Testing is now open for registration.  Information on 9-1-1 to Washington and the NENA National Conference in Long Beach, CA are available on the NENA web site. 

Ohio 911 Council

Lynn Feller, Wayne County, indicated the a report was filed in November of 2011 and there is currently no feedback on that report.  The next Ohio 911 Council is scheduled for March 15 at 1:30.  The agenda will be posted on www.OhioApco.org

Ohio NENA District Reports

No districts had a report to submit at this time.

TERT Committee (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Task Force)

Commercial Committee

Chris Zigo, Motorola Solutions, thanked MCM Consulting for sponsoring lunch and gave an update.  The May Ohio APCO/NENA meeting will include a 10:00 Workshop on Broadband.  The Gold Star Luncheon is scheduled for April 11th and there are still sponsorship opportunities available. 

By Laws Committee

Anne Barr, Union County, will post the proposed By Laws changes on the web site for review.  Once approved, they will be sent to NENA National for approval.

Conference Committee

Rose Chambers, Wood County, indicated that two bids have been received for hosting this event.  The Doubletree in Columbus and Kalahari in Sandusky.  Please submit suggestions for themes and ideas for training classes.  A Conference Committee meeting was held directly after the chapter meeting.

Training Committee

Pat Goldschmidt, Shelby County, announced the training scheduled for April 10th at the Crowne Plaza starting at 8:00 am.  The morning session will include TTY calls and ADA compliance.  The afternoon session is entitled “Why Can’t we all just get along?”  The class size is limited to the first 100 registrants.

Gold Star Award Committee

Alan Fish, City of Westerville, announced Wednesday April 11th as the 2012 date of the Gold Star Award Luncheon.  Winners will be determined in the coming week and will be posted on the web site.  The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza.

Good of the Order

June Johnson, Xenia/Greene County, gave an update on the status of CART (Child Abduction Response Team)  The next meeting will be on Thursday, March 15th at 10:00 am at the Powell Police Department.  More volunteers are needed from communications to make this program successful in Ohio.

Brandon Redmond, Darke County, announced a Social Networking class being taught for Law Enforcement/Public Safety Wednesday April 18th from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Please contact Brandon for further details at 937-459-2926. 

Steven Greene, Parma Heights PD, indicated that Cuyahoga County is in the preparation stages of an RFP and would like input from any agencies recently completing this process.  Steven can be reached at 440-941-3077.

Bo Keck, Muskingum County, gave an update on Ken Borror who is at Mt. Caramel East  Hospital fighting pneumonia.  No visitors, but cards may be sent to Mickey.  Contact Bo for additional contact information at 740-454-1911.
