To: All Communications Center Directors/Managers and Training officers

Ref: Free Training across Ohio from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

Date: July 15, 2008

In December of 2007 the Ohio 9-1-1 Council adopted the Model Call-Taker guide as a state standard.  To help facilitate and encourage national PSAP recognition and adoption of the Model Call-Taker guide, the NCMEC Joint Steering Committee has designated 4 states for an accelerated outreach program and Ohio has been designated as one of the 4 states.  We have been granted a unique opportunity to receive priority in-state training as well as other unique training opportunities at designated national conferences.

The time is now to learn about this standard and train your staff before a tragedy such as a missing child hits your Communications Center.  Why wait, take an 8 hour day and get the tools you, as a Director, and your training officer(s) need to help the parents of your community rest assured that your employees have the knowledge to assist them in their time of crisis.  It simply makes sense.

The following are the descriptions of each of the FREE courses, followed with the dates and locations of when and where they will be offered around Ohio.

Director/Manager course:

This one day seminar gives Communications Directors and/or Managers a self assessment tool that will allow them to comply with the ANI standard and federal law established by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, APCO, NENA, NAED and AMBER Alert.  Specific topics to be discussed are : Victim Impact, Elements of the new ANSI National Standard, NCMEC services available, Implementing the National Standard and a description of Missing and Exploited Children: Nature of the Problem.

Train the Trainer course:

This one day program establishes a comprehensive curriculum designed to deliver critically important information regarding public safety telecommunications’ role in response to incidents/cases of missing, abducted and sexually exploited children.

The curriculum is delivered through a combination of both lecture and group interaction regarding: history, scope and scale, model policy, best practices for effective response, availability and use of resources, scenario-based applications, and action planning strategies.

This course is designed for Public Safety Telecommunications professionals who are directly responsible for the training and ongoing operational competencies of 9-1-1/emergency call-takers, dispatchers and telecommunicators.
